UK to Las Palmas…follow Jua Kali’s progress
Jua Kali and her crew are off again, after a 1430nm milebuilder passage from Performance Yacht Racing‘s UK base to La Linea in Spain (next to Gibraltar).
Most of the route to La Linea was upwind which saw us having to avoid storms on the way, we stopped off in Brest,Santander,Gijon and Porto for fuel, water and rest. We made it to La Linea after 11 days. After a good rest it was then time for a drink and to meet Jua Kali’s new crew for the next part of our route to La Palmas. The journey will be about 600+ nm arriving in time for the start of training for the ARC. The ARC itselfs starts on November 19th.
This time we have crew joining Jua Kali from St Petersburg and Vancouver, making our new Milebuilder crew total 7 and continuing our international theme. After a fabulous crew meal, out in Gibraltar, we were up early the next day. Unfortunately the weather had other plans with thick fog delaying our start until after lunch. But what a great start with wind of 20+ knots behind us, with surf out of the straits and speeds of 14+ knots. Certainly the kind of sailing we enjoy!
Cut to 24hrs later and we now find ourselves in very little wind and having to motor sail. Not the best kind of weather but this has given the crew time to catch up on sleep, read and fish! I can proudly report we have already had fresh fish for lunch. I guess there is a silver lining to glassy seas!
