Middle Sea Race 2014 – Epic Storm! That was a much tougher race than I ever expected.
Being becalmed in the vicinity of Stromboli for two nights was frustrating, then as we approached Palermo the wind shifted to the South and the Mountains on either side of Palermo created two wind holes just when we were tired and wanted an easy ride.
My main thoughts regarding the storm were how lucky we were that the sea was the temperature of tepid tea because each wave seemed to wash down my neck and drained out through my sleeves and legs.
Ross and Andy worked like Trojans, they really worked their butts off to get us into the lee of Pantelleria, for which we owe them a massive thank you! I was quite low the following morning and for me it was a minor miracle I actually made it to Malta via Palermo and Catania in time to catch my flight home on Friday morning.
I had a fantastic time and cannot wait to do it all again!
