Why we love the RORC Caribbean 600 race

When we first heard about this event in 2008 we thought that the combination of fantastic racing conditions with warm seas and steady trade winds sounded most unappealing. After all we’d rather be soaking, cold and freezing wet in the English Channel.

No not really! We jumped at the chance of some fabulous sailing in sunshine, grabbed our shorts and t-shirts and made sure we were on the Caribbean 600 race entry list.

Racing on turquoise seas in brilliant sunshine, a keen fleet and stiff competition, with interesting navigation and tactics thrown in, its perfect!

We don’t think we need to really sell it to you any more! If you are feeling a bit low on Vitamin Sea in February make sure to join our crew for the best sailing fun in the sun! Plus some rum thrown in for good measure!

No previous racing experience is needed! Because expert race training is part of the Caribbean 600 race campaign from our own Performance Yacht Racing skippers.

Our Results

We were very proud of our 2019 PYR Team sailing on board our First 47.7 ‘EH01’ who achieved a 2nd in IRC Class 2 and CSA Class 2. Our team aboard ‘Quokka’, one of our Grand Soleill 43, also achieved a 4th in IRC Class 2. These results were seen as ‘job done’ after retirements in the previous year due to challenging weather conditions for the whole fleet.

In 2017 and 2016 we also achieved 2nd places. 2015 was a fabulous year with a hard fought battle, once again, for 2nd place.

In 2014 we made it back onto the podium finishing 2nd across the water and 3rd on corrected time in IRC 2.

The RORC Caribbean 600 offers some of the best offshore sailing we have experienced. It is a technical and tactical race sailed in azure waters with a backdrop of Caribbean islands like Antigua, St Kitts, St Martin and Guadeloupe to name a few.

Most noteworthy are the many corners as you traverse around the Caribbean islands.

Guadeloupe offers a particular navigation and tactical challenge. Negotiating the wind shadow effectively can make or break a race due to its size and extension off the island.
