Jua Kali reaches the Canaries!
“After 5 days at sea we have stopped briefly in Lanzarote for a shower, some sleep and a well deserved beer!
The crossing from Gibraltar to Lanzarote was a beautiful one. Coming out of Gibraltar we hit some strong wind and sailed at a steady speed of 10 knots which put some miles under our keel. But then 12 hours later with the wind dying off and a boat speed of 2 knots, with sadness, it was time to put the on engine. The only good thing about this was that with the sunrise we were able to do some fishing off the boat and even managed to catch one!
The crossing was a mixture of sailing and motoring but all the crew settled into boat life well. Downwind sailing, sunshine, enjoyable company and good times. I’m not sure it gets better really!
So with our brief stop, a few jobs done and a clean, we are enjoying the scenery of Lanzarote and all ready for the one day crossing to our final destination Las Palmas in readiness for the ARC. Fingers crossed for a pleasant sail.”
